JUNK to FUNK:: Recycled TRASHION!

What is Trashion? It’s fashion, accessories, art, and crafts made from trash and upcycled and recycled materials.
This garment was created using 30 copies of the Financial Times

Believe it or not, this stylish handbag is made from hundreds of recycled aluminum pull-tabs. Yes, those tiny tabs we throw away without giving them a second glance after opening a can. Luckily, San Francisco-based company Escama Studio and various Brazilian crafts cooperatives have been working together since 2004 to create great fashion accessories from them. And their approach is personal: Each fashion piece comes with a tag bearing the signature of the person who made it. Customers can then click on that person’s profile on the company’s website to find out more about the artist. I love it!

Fashion made from recycled cassette tape string

These Tea Cup Bangles first surfaced on Twitter recently and demanded to be shared. They are made from real tea cups, adapted by designer Abigail MaryRose Clark.

Did you know??
**Each year, the average American throws away about 70 pounds of clothing each year and make up about 3% of our household waste. They end up in landfills and most don’t decompose.**

I blogged about these bangles a WHILE ago...they are made from recycled magazines. So fly! Check the archives for this post.

The Denim Kimono was created using recycled denim jackets and jeans.

Gary Harvey is the former Creative Director of Levi Strauss and Dockers Europe designer for Levi's. He began designing his environmentally friendly dresses during a freelance fashion campaign. He needed something dramatic for a shoot so he took 42 pairs of Levi's 501's and made them into a dress. He has continued designing eco-fashion since.

He doesn't just recycle clothing to make his innovative designs. This dress was made with cans, bottle tops and cardboard boxes.

The difference a belt can make...

AFTER
BEFORE
~~~~
I'm working on my NYE outfit and pulled out this Vintage dress that I thrifted a while back...I love how good it feels on but I felt frumpy because it just draped over me...I looked like a supersized square. So I decided to add this yellow belt and BAM, I have a smokin' hot outfit to wear tonight!!! Accessories and a pop of color always does the trick!!
Coming Soon::::Eco-Centric Vintage Boutique!!!
This dress inspired my decision to sell Vintage pieces like this one featured above online. Initially I purchased this dress from a high-end consignment shop for my daughter. I don't know what I was thinking, since its sheer my hubz said ABSOLUTELY NOT! I guess I figured she could wear a cami and/or a slip under it but he said no among other dresses like this one. The other dresses sold on eBay super fast so I decided to start selling vintage pieces on the side. So far business is booming on eBay....It was an older Caucasian lady that encouraged me to do this. We are both regulars at this particular consignment shop and met at an Estate Sale. She said, "Honey you have an eye to be such a young thing..people will pay you to do what you love." I love finding a diamond among rubbage..I ordered my mannequins and my plan is in motion. I will start a Facebook fan page where I will announce each new listing so stay tuned for that. Everything will be listed on eBay and payed via PayPal for secure transactions. I always wanted to have my own little boutique that served wine, fancy tea, coffees, gourmet danish and biscotti to my shoppers...You never know what the future holds. I may be able to parlay this vision into a nice little side-gig situation!! LOL!!
Anywhoo, I decided to wear this wig that I bought at least a year ago. Its called RIHANNA III ...Its a bob, the back is totally short...so cute. My vintage dress was $1.75 at the thrift store. That was a good day!!
Get the look for less...
I saw a dress last spring that I fell in love with. It was Gucci, the price and size were way out of my league so I forgot about it and moved on. Well, after browsing the web I stumbled onto a website called http://www.onestopplus.com/ . This is where the dress featured above came from. It is almost identical to the Gucci dress I seen in Vogue last year! This website has sizes from 12W to 44W!!! WOW! They have everything from shoes to purses and clothes to fit the curvy girls. The prices aren't "thrifty" but everyone deserves a semi-splurge every once and a while, right?!!
