Happy 3 Year Nappiversary to ME!! Tons of Pics!!!
Late July-Early August 2008...BIG CHOP!!!
^^^ My hair straightened....
This pic was taken the other day....
I've had a ball with my natural hair. Its been 3 years of beautiful nappy days. I can't wait to see what the future holds on this natural hair journey. Even on those bad hair days I'm glad I chopped off all my hair...3 years ago.

Backpacks on a Budget!! DIY: Back To School Edition
Parents, its that time of year again...The kiddies are heading back to school. Getting the kiddos ready to go back to school can be expensive; especially when you have to buy new wardrobes, uniforms, shoes and school supplies. This year I chose to shop around and compare prices. This time last year I spent $34.99 EACH on backpacks that started peeling around the 2nd quarter. This year we set a budget, which meant that I cut costs by 50%. I had to go to Office Depot, Walmart and Best Buy to get the rest of the things on the school supply list but by clipping coupons we saved a ton.
Back To School shopping at the Grocery Store.. Who woulda' thunk it?
$6.99 each at the grocery store.
The blue one is for my 5 1/2 yr old...the pink is for my 12 1/2 yr old...
Since I am the self-proclaimed IRON-ON Queen, we had some iron-on's already on hand in our DIY box of goodies. These sheets were approx: $4.99- $7.99 each at Michaels Iron-On Transfers.
My little one cutting the pieces she wants on her backpack...
Ready for Kindergarten!!!
These backpacks have been transformed from basic to personalized which looks more girly and fun!! This works well for boys and girls, all ages!

Happy Black History Month!! Library Time...

This was the Martin Luther King book display at my local library from last month. I love how my library has so many books about African American History. A very thrifty way to teach your children about their culture is by taking them to the library. Its free, quiet and very resourceful to frequent the library...My oldest daughter suggested that we read a different book on Black History every day this month. There are also many free activities to enjoy...Below is a snapshot I took of the flyer advertising an event I plan to attend next week...
"Soulful stories to tell of strong black towns and communities with life changing history. Powerful stories of a colored hospital; "Bullet" Joe Rogan's no wind up baseball pitches and the foiled bank robbery of Pretty Boy Floyd's boys. History of Black Town's and Communities...Absolutely Soulfully! Join Rhythmically Speaking to celebrate Black History month. "

Check out free programs in your community and visit your local library to attend activities and events that celebrate Black History Month.

Coming Soon::::Eco-Centric Vintage Boutique!!!

This dress inspired my decision to sell Vintage pieces like this one featured above online. Initially I purchased this dress from a high-end consignment shop for my daughter. I don't know what I was thinking, since its sheer my hubz said ABSOLUTELY NOT! I guess I figured she could wear a cami and/or a slip under it but he said no among other dresses like this one. The other dresses sold on eBay super fast so I decided to start selling vintage pieces on the side. So far business is booming on eBay....It was an older Caucasian lady that encouraged me to do this. We are both regulars at this particular consignment shop and met at an Estate Sale. She said, "Honey you have an eye to be such a young thing..people will pay you to do what you love." I love finding a diamond among rubbage..I ordered my mannequins and my plan is in motion. I will start a Facebook fan page where I will announce each new listing so stay tuned for that. Everything will be listed on eBay and payed via PayPal for secure transactions. I always wanted to have my own little boutique that served wine, fancy tea, coffees, gourmet danish and biscotti to my shoppers...You never know what the future holds. I may be able to parlay this vision into a nice little side-gig situation!! LOL!!

Riddle Me This????!?!??! Random Rant!
A fellow blogger and I were venting earlier about the highs and lows of blogging. I had very few lows to vent about because for me blogging is a hobby so I enjoy it. For her its like a thorn in her side because she has about 100, 000 more followers than I do. For me blogging is therapy and ways to share info with friends and fam. For her she is constantly wondering what content is relevant and appropriate for her huge audience of followers.
One thing we both have in common is, dare I say it...LURKERS!!! Oh Em Gee!! For those of you who don't know what a lurker is...lemme dumb it down for you. Its the people who frequent your blog, profile, online journal or whatever simply just to read what you say and BOUNCE!! They don't click "like" or "recommend" they just read your every word and look at your content from the sidelines and roll out. Some lurkers frequent your blog more often than those who actually comment.

User participation often more or less follows a 90-9-1 rule:
90% of users are lurkers (i.e., read or observe, but don't contribute).
9% of users contribute from time to time, but other priorities dominate their time.
1% of users participate a lot and account for most contributions: it can seem as if they don't have lives because they often post just minutes after whatever event they're commenting on occurs.

One of my homies was bragging to the crew how much she loved my blog but I had to stop her to say, "you read my blog???" she was like...yeah girl, I follow you on Google Reader!! I was like oh heck naw, NOT YOU TOO! To me Google Reader is just a fancy way of lurking. Half the time the writer of the blog has no idea that you are even following them. After giving her blues about not supporting my "movement" she now follows me on twitter!! LOL!! She is probably lurking right now so, "Hey K.W"!!!

We are all guilty of "browsing" the net...I am a reformed lurker, to me lurking was wack because I wanted to add my two cents in the comments! If the website is interesting enough for me to read on a daily basis why not just "JOIN" or "FOLLOW"???
If I am all up on your site you are gonna know I've been there. I won't comment on every blog post or entry because I can't always co-sign or relate but I will contribute here and there. If you don't see me pop up every once in a while then I'm not lurking!! Being nosey 24/7- 365 is not a good look!
I know certain people are shy and don't have much to say...I get that, I'm not talking to the introverted people. I have shy anti-social moments myself but C'Mon Son!! Come out of hiding...I added a hit counter a month ago and so far almost 9,000 hits so I know yall are looking and watching!! I have some who write me on michelle@curvyecocentric.com to add comments and I thank you for showing love!!
A year or so ago one of my favorite bloggers shut down her blog because she felt like she was talking to herself...I really miss her contribution to the world wide web...she was so positive and refreshing but like so many before her she stopped blogging because she didn't feel the support from the community of people who "followed" her.
Bloggers do alot of research and preparation to offer us information, insight and their perspectives. At least you can "like" something every once in a while. SHeeSH!!
For those of you who offer a comment or a retweet I THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Your feedback is priceless. I love blogging so you can join me for the ride if you wish..but yall need to stop lurking so much and come out of hiding. If you are reading this then you are on this site for a reason. I don't bite!! LOL!
Support your local blog TODAY!! <--- super cheesey, I know!! LOL!

GARAGE SALES are a good way to REUSE!

Garage Sales are my favorite Saturday morning ritual.. So many treasures to sort from..I usually go to the "uppity" neighborhoods because in many cases the wealthy are more likely to bore quickly from an overabundance and tend to sell their items dirt cheap. Garage sales are a great way to purge while ridding oneself of excess and making a pretty penny in the process! A while back I promoted my garage sale on Craigslist, posted signs and even attached balloons to my mailbox to encourage people to stop and shop. I started at 8 am in the morning and by noon I had close to $300 dollars in my pocket. CHA-CHING! I made a huge dent in my junky garage and cashed in at the same time. Its alot of work but well worth it in the end...the stuff that you have left you can drop off at the Goodwill. To make it even more fun, invite friends to sell their things as well..its like making money for hanging out... Happy Garage Sailin'...

I need an INTERVENTION!!!!

I spend so much time in this store, its crazy!! I just bought a vintage Chanel scarf (that smelled like moth balls LOL!) for .99 pennies....whoever is pricing this stuff doesn't have a clue of the value of these pieces. Bless their heart. Their loss is my gain!! What can I say, the stuff is donated?? LOL! *shoulder shrug* Sorry.. Happy Thrifting!!

Name brand outfit for only $2 bucks!

While out THRIFTING I stumbled on the cutest pieces for my almost 5 year old. The bedazzled top is Old Navy and the shorts are Hannah Montana, new with tags. Since it was Maniac Monday I got an additional 75% off. This cute little outfit that I paired with gold gladiator sandals only cost $2.oo!! You can't beat that price with a stick! Thrift stores are more than dusty hand-me-downs...I had on a Vera Wang top yesterday that I paid a buck fiddy for! Gotta love it!

My shopping bag...

Honestly I have no idea where I purchased this reusable bag...It was only $1.00...
maybe Dollar Tree???
Most of the time I forget it at home so I have to settle for paper bags, but I'm getting better...some stores you can't avoid getting plastic...don't beat yourself up, most things have some type of plastic packaging. I just try to avoid plastic and styrofoam if/when I can because they will still be taking up space somewhere in a landfill hundreds of years from now. Every little bit helps so do what you can to save our home, Earth. Everytime I REMEMBER to take this bag with me, it's one less plastic bag to take home.
