Already set to play a character in Dark Castle's DC Comics adaptation 'The Losers,' British actor Idris Elba has been tapped to join in on another comic book film coming to the big screen.
The Hollywood Reporter states that the former star of 'The Wire' will play Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard in 'Thor,' Marvel Studios' film about the Norse god of thunder.
Also starring in the film are Chris Hemsworth, who will play Thor; Tom Hiddleston, who will play Loki; and Natalie Portman, who is the love interest Jane Foster.
Samuel L. Jackson is expected to make a cameo as Nick Frost to tie the film into 'The Avengers,' much like the cameo he made in 'Iron Man.'
Kenneth Branagh is directing the adaptation of the Marvel comic, with shooting scheduled to begin in mid-January in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
Paramount Pictures will release the film May 20, 2011.
Elba was seen earlier this year in the Screen Gems suspense thriller 'Obsessed,' opposite
Beyonce Knowles and Ali Larter.
