OATS::: The superfood! Health Benefits of eating OATS...

Eating a bowl of oatmeal each morning is the perfect way to start your day off right. This article will explain the six benefits of eating oatmeal and ways to make it taste delicious.
First off, the oatmeal discussed here is not the instant kind that comes in the different flavors — these are full of sugar. The real stuff is the plain oat flakes from Quaker Oats or a similar brand.
The benefits of oatmeal are due to the fact that it's made from oats and oats are a good source of both soluble and insoluble fiber.
According to the American Cancer Society:

1. Insoluble fiber's cancer-fighting properties are due to the fact that it attacks certain bile acids, reducing their toxicity.
2. Soluble fiber may reduce LDL cholesterol without lowering HDL cholesterol. LDL is bad; HDL is good.
3. Soluble fiber slows down the digestion of starch. This may be beneficial to diabetics because, when you slow down the digestion of starch, you avoid the sharp rises in your blood sugar level that usually occur following a meal.
4. It has been found that those who eat more oats are less likely to develop heart disease, a disease that is currently widespread in the United States.
5. The phytochemicals in oat may also have cancer-fighting properties.
6. Oats are a good source of many nutrients including vitamin E, zinc, selenium, copper, iron, manganese and magnesium. Oats are also a good source of protein.

The difference between insoluble and soluble fiber, besides the foods that they come from, is what they do in your body.

Insoluble fiber's main role is that it makes stools heavier and speeds their passage through the gut, relieving constipation. Soluble fiber breaks down as it passes through the digestive tract, forming a gel that traps some substances related to high cholesterol, thus reducing the absorption of cholesterol into the bloodstream.

ThE CoLoR PuRpLe....My favorite color!

Royalty and Spirituality:
Purple is royalty. A mysterious color, purple is associated with both nobility and spirituality. The opposites of hot red and cool blue combine to create this intriguing color.

Nature of Purple:
Purple has a special, almost sacred place in nature: lavender, orchid, lilac, and violet flowers are often delicate and considered precious. Because purple is derived from the mixing of a strong warm and strong cool color it has both warm and cool properties. A purple room can boost a child's imagination or an artist's creativity. Too much purple, like blue, could result in moodiness.

Culture of Purple:
The color of mourning for widows in Thailand, purple was the favorite color of Egypt's Cleopatra. It has been traditionally associated with royalty in many cultures. Purple robes were worn by royalty and people of authority or high rank. The Purple Heart is a U.S. Military decoration given to soldiers wounded in battle.

Using Purple:
Deep or bright purples suggest riches while lighter purples are more romantic and delicate. Use redder purples for a warmer color scheme or the bluer purples to cool down.

Using Purple with Other Colors:
A deep eggplant purple with neutral tans or beige is an earthy, conservative color combination with a touch of the mystery that purple provides. Green and purple can be a striking combination in deep or bright jewel tones or use lighter shades for a cheerful, springlike feel. Pink and purple has feminine appeal.

Purple Color Palettes:
These color palettes feature shades of purple combined with shades of green, orange, blue, and yellow.

Using Purple in Other Design Fields:
Feng Shui Use of the Color Purple

Language of Purple:
The use of purple in familiar phrases can help a designer see how their color of choice might be perceived by others, both the positive and negative aspects.

Purple Words: These words are synonymous with purple or represent various shades of the color purple.
Violet, plum, lavender, lilac, puce, thistle, orchid, mauve, magenta, royal, amethyst, wine, pomegranate, eggplant, mulberry.

Hairspiration:: Natural Styles

As I approach my 2 year Nappiversary I am loving this natural life more and more these days! My hair is growing like weeds and my usual twist/twist out is getting a little boring. Don't get me wrong, I love my twisties and all but now that I have more hair I'm looking for new styles. Its something about the "free" hairstyles that I really love. Its so liberating to rock my hair when its just doing its own thing. Its no particular style but my natural kinks, waves and coils doing what they do! The styles above are just a few...I have so many more but these are a few faves. If I wasn't so tender-headed (is that a real word? LOL!) I'd rock braids but I just don't have the attention span to sit for hours and get my hair braided. The look Jill Scott is rocking is soooo hot, half braided half wild and sexy on the other side. I recently added more color in my hair. I did a henna treatment which turned my hair a wine/auburn color in the front. I love it! Color is so fun,....after henna you have to saturate your hair with juices and berries because it can really dry your hair OUT! You can't beat natural permanent color though! *wink*

The Karate Kid's sister::: WILLOW SMITH has flava!

Willow and Jaden (I love how they are named after their parents!)

(Willow, at the premiere of her brother Jaden Smith's new movie...the Karate Kid)

(pictured with her Mom, Jada Pinkett-Smith)

Will and Jada Pinkett's Smith little girl, Willow is a trendsetter. Only 9 years old, this little cutie has her own style. She grabbed my attention when she hit the scene with a half-shaven head. I have to admit, I love to see creativity expressed through fashion. Usually girls her age wear trendy little outfits with Disney characters and girly colors and flowers. Not this little beauty, her style demands attention. I for one am curious to see what Miss. Willow has up her little leopard print sleeve. You go girl!
